Sightwitch is an illustrated prequel novella set in the New York Times bestselling Witchlands series by Susan Dennard.

Although the story is set a year before Truthwitch, fans of the series should read the novella after Windwitch.

Synopsis[]

Before Safi and Iseult battled a Bloodwitch...

Before Merik returned from the dead…

Ryber Fortiza was a Sightwitch Sister at a secluded convent, waiting to be called by her goddess into the depths of the mountain. There she would receive the gift of foretelling. But when that call never comes, Ryber finds herself the only Sister without the Sight.

Years pass and Ryber’s misfit pain becomes a dull ache, until one day, Sisters who already possess the Sight are summoned into the mountain, never to return. Soon enough, Ryber is the only Sister left. Now, it is up to her to save her Sisters, though she does not have the Sight—and though she does not know what might await her inside the mountain.

On her journey underground, she encounters a young captain named Kullen Ikray, who has no memory of who he is or how he got there. Together, the two journey ever deeper in search of answers, their road filled with horrors, and what they find at the end of that road will alter the fate of the Witchlands forever.

Set a year before TruthwitchSightwitch is a companion novella that also serves as a set up to Bloodwitch, as well as an expansion of the Witchlands world.[1]

Plot[]

The story starts with a note on a sightwitch diary written by Ryber Fortiza. On it, she recorded everything that had happened between her and Kullen Ikray, who lost his memories due to a spell. She wants him to read it and remember.

The first diary entry is about a cluster of three stars named The Sleeping Giant. While several theories exist for the origin of the constellation's name, Ryber believes the name predates many fables and the cultures that created them.

She recorded the following Sightwitch Sister skipping song to remember the constellations:

Follow the Bat in the mountains, to find the soil and stones.
Follow the Fox and the Iris, to find the tides of home.
Follow the Hound and the Giant, to find the winds and the storm.
And follow the Hawk moving eastern, to find what flames have born.
Follow the Rook to the snowcaps, and you'll find the soul that begins.
But it's in the pitch-deep darkness, that you'll find where all things end.
